GTIN Does Not Match Brand or Product

What this means

The submitted GTIN is registered to a different brand or product in GS1's database. Walmart cross-references GTINs and rejects mismatches to prevent counterfeit and incorrect listings.

Why this happens

GS1 assigns GTIN prefixes to specific brand owners. If your brand value doesn't match the registered GS1 brand for that GTIN, ingestion fails. This also fires when sellers reuse a third-party GTIN, use recycled UPCs from a UPC reseller, or submit private-label products with another company's barcodes.

How to fix it

  1. Verify GTIN ownership in GS1's GEPIR lookup tool
  2. If you own the brand, confirm GS1 records list your company
  3. Request a GTIN exemption if you sell unbranded goods
  4. Replace recycled UPCs with GS1-issued codes
  5. Resubmit after correcting brand or GTIN
