Multi-source vendor catalog

Standardizing a mixed-source catalog for Google Shopping

The problem

80+ hours of failed Merchant Center approvals

Caribshopper's catalog draws on a wide mix of sources — local artisans to Caribbean manufacturers — and the product data fluctuates from SKU to SKU. Vendor spreadsheets aren't standardized in format, type or cell location, and some handmade or non-traditional products arrive missing required values like image and description altogether.

We spent countless hours trying to get our products on Google Merchant Center without a clear understanding of how to navigate their platform.

Caribshopper

That complexity created real friction on Google Shopping. The team spent more than 80 hours trying, and failing, to get products approved on Merchant Center — without a clear read on which blind spots were blocking the listings.

The solution

Custom rules to extract values and re-route attributes

Google Shopping requires standardized attributes before products can list — miss a required value or map an attribute wrong, and it won't publish. Caribshopper didn't have the channel knowledge or data management experience to clear those hurdles alone, so it turned to Feed Management by GoDataFeed.

Custom rules mapped inconsistent vendor columns to Google's required attributes.

GoDataFeed's account managers have seen more than 10,000 catalogs and over 340 million products across 15 years. The team read through Caribshopper's data and built custom rules to extract the proper values and re-route attributes to Google's spec — turning inconsistent vendor columns into feed Google would accept.

But their column headers housed a really broad mix of values from one product to the next, which made it impossible to give Google straightforward answers to required fields. So we pored through their data and created a list of custom rules to extract the proper values and re-route attributes to Google's requirements.

The impact

Live in a week, 15% sales lift

Within a week of signing on, Caribshopper's entire product line was live on Merchant Center. Google Shopping ads became its top source of paid traffic, alongside a 17% boost in organic Google Shopping traffic and a 15% increase in sales.

17%

boost in organic Google Shopping traffic

As the marketplace brings on new creators and manufacturers, GoDataFeed reformats new product data to get listings up fast — so catalog growth doesn't reopen the approval problem.

Looking forward

Scaling the catalog without reopening the problem

Caribshopper keeps expanding its marketplace and signing new manufacturers. GoDataFeed reformats incoming product data on an ongoing basis, keeping new SKUs live on Google fast as the catalog grows.
