Item violates Merchant Guidelines

What this means

Pinterest's policy review flagged products as violating the Merchant Guidelines. Errors 4042 and 4023 block those products from organic and paid distribution, even if the feed itself is technically valid.

Why this happens

Common triggers: claims about health outcomes, weight loss promises, before/after imagery, products perpetually marked as on sale, and products from a website that does not meet Pinterest's quality bar (thin content, missing contact info, broken checkout). Pinterest also blocks merchants whose entire catalog is heavily discounted - it reads as untrustworthy.

How to fix it

  1. Read the current Merchant Guidelines and identify which clause your products are tripping.
  2. Remove health, medical, and weight-loss claims from titles and descriptions.
  3. Limit sale-price coverage to no more than 50% of the catalog at any time.
  4. Improve site quality: real contact info, returns policy, secure checkout, original photography.
  5. Submit a re-review request from Catalog Manager once corrections are live.
