critical promotional overlay on image

Promotional text or watermark on image

What this means

Your product image has a promotional overlay — text like "SALE", "50% OFF", a watermark, or a logo banner. Google requires clean product imagery.

Why this happens

Either marketing baked promotions into the hero image, or the CDN is layering a promotion sticker dynamically. Either way, Google's image classifier flags the overlay and disapproves.

How to fix it

  1. Audit every product image for text, badges, watermarks, or promotional graphics. The classifier picks up small "Free Shipping" callouts as easily as full "SALE" banners.
  2. Use a clean original image as image_link. If you need promotional callouts elsewhere, put them on the landing page — not in the feed image.
  3. If you use a dynamic-overlay CDN (like Cloudinary's f_auto with text layers), strip transformations from feed image URLs.
  4. Brand logos on packaging are usually fine — what gets flagged is added marketing graphics.
