critical generic or placeholder image

Generic or placeholder image

What this means

Google's image classifier flagged your product image as a generic placeholder — a stock 'image coming soon' graphic, a logo-only image, or a fully-blank/colored frame.

Why this happens

Your e-commerce platform may serve placeholder graphics for products lacking real photography. The platform exposes those placeholders as image_link to Google instead of skipping the product.

How to fix it

  1. Audit products and identify any pointing at known-placeholder URLs (e.g., /images/coming-soon.png).
  2. Either source real product photography or exclude these products from the feed until photos exist.
  3. Add a feed rule: skip products whose image_link matches placeholder patterns.
  4. Resubmit.
