Error 8540 — Product not found in catalog

What this means

The identifier you submitted (UPC/EAN/ASIN) doesn't exist in Amazon's catalog. Either typo or genuinely new product needing creation.

Why this happens

Wrong identifier (typo in UPC), or a new product that hasn't been added to Amazon's catalog yet.

How to fix it

  1. Verify the UPC/EAN against the manufacturer's source.
  2. If it's correct, you may need to create a new ASIN — Use Inventory → Add Product → I'm adding a product not sold on Amazon.
  3. Provide all category-required attributes for new ASIN creation.
  4. Apply for a GTIN exemption first if the product genuinely has no GTIN.
