Error 5013 — Generic or 'unbranded' values not accepted

What this means

Amazon rejected values like 'Generic', 'No Brand', 'N/A', 'Unbranded', or blank in the brand field. Most categories require a real brand value.

Why this happens

Amazon catalogues by brand for filtering and search relevance. Generic placeholders break the catalog structure and are universally rejected outside a few specific exempt categories.

How to fix it

  1. If you manufacture the product yourself, use your store/brand name (register it via Brand Registry for protection).
  2. If you're a reseller, find the actual brand from the manufacturer or supplier.
  3. If the product genuinely has no brand (e.g., bulk hardware), check whether your category supports the 'Generic' brand — only certain hardware/component categories do.
  4. Don't submit 'Generic' just because you don't know the brand — research it first.
