Error 13042 — Image is blurry, low-quality, or pixelated

What this means

Amazon's image quality check rejected the photo — out of focus, motion-blurred, heavily compressed, or upscaled from a lower-resolution source.

Why this happens

Amazon runs sharpness and noise detection on uploaded images. Phone photos in poor lighting, JPEG artifacts from over-compression, and upscales from sub-500px sources are the typical triggers.

How to fix it

  1. Re-shoot in good lighting (daylight or studio strobes) with the camera focused on the product.
  2. Save JPEGs at quality 85–95 — anything lower introduces visible artifacts.
  3. Don't upscale small images to meet size requirements; Amazon detects pixelation introduced by upscaling.
  4. If you have to use phone photography, shoot in 4K and use a tripod.
