Error 13012 — Image appears to be generic or placeholder

What this means

Amazon flagged the image as generic — typically a 'No image available', 'Coming soon', logo-only, or stock-clipart image. The listing won't be approved without a real product photograph.

Why this happens

This catches retailers who upload placeholders during catalog import while waiting for real photography. Amazon doesn't allow these to remain live.

How to fix it

  1. Replace with a real product photograph — taken from the actual SKU you'll ship.
  2. If you don't have your own photography, ask the manufacturer for approved product images (most provide a media kit).
  3. For pre-orders, you can use a manufacturer-provided render, but it must be of the actual product, not a generic 'TBD' graphic.
  4. Stock-photo sites (Shutterstock, etc.) are NOT acceptable — Amazon catches duplicate stock images and rejects.
